What to look for when comparing bids:

Is the contractor properly licensed, bonded & insured, and is the individual holding the license actually involved in the day to day operation of the business?
Length of time in business and experience for the type of job bid and completion of similar projects.
In good standing with City and State officials.
Customer Satisfaction (see Angie's List & our Customer Comments Page).
And Remember: Don't just compare price. Quality of workmanship and customer service are factors.

What's the difference between a Master Plumber, Restricted Plumber & Pipelayer (taken from the State of MN Department of Labor and Industry website) ( http://www.dli.mn.gov/CCLD/PlumbingConsumer.asp )

Master Plumber - A licensed master plumber will have five or more years of practical work experience and knowledge of the Minnesota state plumbing code. He or she will have thousands of hours experience in water distribution systems, drain, waste and vent system installation, and fixture installation. A master plumber can bid on plumbing jobs, big and small, and may also design the plumbing systems that will be installed,
Certified pipelayer - A certified pipelayer is an individual who has completed pipe-laying training in a program approved by the commissioner of the Department of Labor and Industry, and has a certificate to show record of the training. This certificate, or pipelayer's card, may be carried by an individual in lieu of a plumber license to work on water service pipes, building drain/sanitary sewer pipes and storm sewer pipes within the property lines of a facility or residence, but not inside buildings. This does not qualify a person to work on interior plumbing, unless also holding Restricted Master Plumber License (see below) AND working in a City of less than 5,000 residents.
Restricted master plumber - An individual who is lawfully qualified to contract for plumbing and installations and to conduct the business of plumbing in cities and towns with a population of fewer than 5,000 according to the most recent federal census, and who has at least four years of practical plumbing experience in the plumbing trade or two years experience as a plumbing contractor. This license authorizes the individual to work on both interior plumbing and exterior water service, sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems within the property lines in those areas.

Kyle attended Bemidji State, and has chosen to be a Tradesman. He started working summers for us at age 14 and passed his Master's test in January of 2015. He has lead the crew since 2008, and upon Dan's retirement assumed the quoting, troubleshooting and material/asset acquistion responsiblities. Kyle is recognized for his extensvie knowledge and experience in the industry.

Kevin graduated Cum Laude from the University of St. Thomas in 2014 with a degree in Finance from their Business Undergrad program. Kevin worked for in the summer during his college career and passed his Journeyworker's test in June of 2018. He has stepped in to take the lead on smaller jobs to free up time for Kyle assume Dan's roles after he retired.

Hout Thouk

Employed for 40 Years - Journeyworker Plumber

Hout started working for Dan in 1982. He barely spoke a word of English and has progressed up the ranks. He is a very hard working, knowledgeable and dedicated employee. He is the senior member on the crew and looked up to by Kyle, Kevin and Saul.

Eric Lund

Apprentice Plumber

Eric is a Hopkins High School Class of 2020 graduate. He is the cousin of Kyle and Kevin and has always looked to up to them. Eric is eager to earn while he learns a trade. He will need to put in 7200 hours (approx. 4 years) to quailify to take his Journeyworker Plumbing License Test ~~ basically a 4 year technical degree with no student loans! We are thrilled to have him on the crew and enjoy his youthful enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.

Susie Swanson

Controller & Office Manager

Susie is the person on the other end of the phone. She and Dan have been married since 1985. Susie worked for Eastman Kodak for 13 years winning an Award for Customer Service, Integrity and Work Ethic.

Dan Swanson

Master Plumber& Consultant, Retired 9/30/2020

Dan started in the sewer & water business working for his Dad while attend Hopkins Lindberg High School. He went on to get a Business degree fro Bemidji State in 1976. He took over Plumbing & Heating Repair, and was partners first with his Mom, then a brother until he & Susie started Highview Plumbing, Inc. in 1994. He has a weath of knowledge which Kyle and Kevin tap into when needed. He is currently enjoying retirement at the family's farm/hunting land near Ortonville, MN.
